Clymac and KAC MCP1s
« on: January 10, 2013, 07:06:05 PM »
Was trying to replace a break glass in a current  KAC MCP1 today, only had standard KAC glasses, the panel would not re-set and the old broken glass (marked Clymac) appeared to be a tad larger than the standard KAC. I wondered if this was by design, do Clymac use special glasses with KAC MCPs?

That's a new one on me, whilst many companies branded the KAC as their own via the glasses I've always been able to interchange the glasses.

KAC's site data shows that manufacturers can make call points electrically or by protocol, but that the elements are universal, just with a custom print option.

It was definitely a latest model MCP1? I've had a site where the 'maintenance' people were caught out by a Fulleon call point which bears a (slight) resemblance to a KAC World series, put a KAC glass in, with the result the system kept going into fire as it's just too small to stay in place and keep the micro-switch pressed - their answer was to leave it in fire silenced and recommend a new MCP...

You might well be right Anthony. Looked like a KAC to me I and assumed it was, glass size apart what are the obvious differences? I have a photo  I could email to you if this would help identify it for sure.

Having seen the photo it is a current MCP model from KAC. Which is strange as the standard KG1 glass elements as used for decades should still fit as that's the only ones KAC list as spares and I've also seen the older ones used(the MCP call points do look rather odd with the older KG1 clear elements in).

One for the manufacturer it seems!

Thanks Anthony. Have had to call out the engineers must be a faulty microswitch.
