Guidelines covering marinas and boatparks?
« on: January 03, 2013, 10:10:23 PM »
Hi Fire Risk Assessors out there!

I need some advice please (sure, I know that's why I am on here!).

Do you know if there are there any specific guidelines for Fire Risk Assessments relating to Marinas and Boatparks?

I am aware of the Yacht Harbour Association Code of Practice & the Confederation of Fire Protections Associations Europe, but just wondered if there is anything else, such as the DCLG guidelines?

Thanks in anticipation........

 :)

Don't think any gov guidance but you could try on coastal fire services websites. I have an American document if any help.
We're not Brazil we're Northern Ireland.

Is there any aspect of the marina that is bothering you Vonnie?

You have mentioned the CFPA Eu guidance, assuming you are in England and Wales you may need to refer to a range of the CLG Fire Safety Order guidance as marinas often have shops, bars, function rooms, sleeping accommodation, laundry and workshops in addition to boat refuelling.  The British Marine Federation may be able to help by putting you in touch with others.

Often the local fire brigade will also have their own guidance and standards documents on specific occupancies intended to help clients and inform their own officers, these have no legal standing but are useful guidance so it might be worth asking.

Some info here.  Mainly for on the boats.

The CLG Sleeping Accommodation guidance document covers: self catering accommodation (individual and multiple units), chalets, flat complexes, narrow boats and cruisers, caravan holiday parks (excluding privately owned units – unless they are sub-let);  so you'd be forgiven for using that document I suspect.  Just make sure no one falls in!
