Holiday Lets

I am seeking opinions and views on what provisions, if any, colleagues are asking for in holiday lets in respect of exit doors that require use of a key. Are you asking for: locks to be changed?;spare key to be available in vicinity of exit?; or accepting as it stands?
I have not seen a previous discussion thread on this subject but if there is, please direct me to it.

For large places likely to be occupied by more than one family unit I would ask for thumb turns etc. For most small places I would be happy with a spare key and torch on a hook near the door. Preferably with a wacking great tally the size of a hydrant plate!

Thanks Kurnal, that is in line with what I am asking for and seems reasonable. On another issue, would you be asking for extinguishers and blankets to be annually maintained in holiday lets? A lot of them now have these sealed throw aways from B & Q with 5 year warranty!

If they are provided they should be maintained in accordance with BS5306 and/or manufacturers instructions.

I am intrigued by this.  What is considered to be an exit, all of them?  Thumb locks are okay for people without arthiritic hands so what about those with disabilities of the hand.

As regards lghting and blankets the "CLG Do you have Paying Guests?" guide allows for DIY blankets and normal lights or borrowed light for EEL.

Its about what is reasonable and proportionate. Most of us live in houses with locked exit doors and keys to open the door. If I go and stay in a two up two down cottage for a holiday why should I expect anything different?

 By thumb turns on the larger properties  I include night latches and other similar devices to enable persons to open the door from the inside without the use of a key. I think that if a group of friends share a holiday cottage it is more likely that the keys will be mislaid than if the place is occupied by a single family unit with the normal and established hierarchy and habits that will continue as normal in the holiday accommodation.
