Good garage Chelmsford/Southend
« on: March 06, 2013, 10:16:24 PM »
Hi All,
My darling daughters, who will inherit my debts, are living and working in Chelmsford and Southend. Can anyone from that area please recommend a reasonable garage for minor servicing, changing lightbulbs etc. Living in N. Ireland I tend to get a phonecall each time there is a minor breakdown and it is never practical to fly over at short notice. When I do go over, my job is to dip the oil, check tyre pressures etc.
Can't wait to go over in April to see my daughters / cars. :)

Glad of any recommendations, Dave

I can recommend the following;

http://www.ghmotorsessex.co.uk/

My wife and daughter both use this place for services, repairs and MOT's.

It is in Basildon which is an equal distance between both Chelmsford and Southend.

George is the guy who owns the place.

Many thanks Wiz,
I will check it out. The next time a daughter calls, I will direct them to your recommendation.

Thanks again, Dave

NT,
Hope this post didn't keep you up all night. I should send them on a course, take the pressure off me. Sure if the cars didn't give a bit of bother I wouldn't have an excuse to visit sunny Essex. Apparently rained there all day today!
Where can I sign them up for the course.
Dave

Perhaps if you had bought them good Jap cars you wouldn't have to drink so much English lager.

Check with the local tech Davy. Some do provide basic maintenance courses for the less mechanically minded. Maybe AA or RAC could point you somewhere.
I thik I have seen them advertised over here in the tech colleges. Maybe they do same over there.
Up all night? I am an early riser. Much to do. Places to go. People to meet.

And if their local colleges or community groups don't run any courses then the internet is always a good source of info, if you know where to look.

Reliable sites like E-how, video jug and the like normally provide half decent tutorials - a good chum of mine learnt the basics that way.

Its just a thought as I know alot of evening classes provided by colleges are being cut back due to budget restraints!

Thanks for the comments and training recommendations BUT,
My little girls just want Daddy to call over and help them out as Daddy's do.
I enjoy my little trips to Essex with my wife, see the girls for a few days and yes have a few beers and whatever else I can get. To be fair one of the girls is reasonably practical (carwise)
Previously I feel I have been overcharged for work done to their cars so it is good to have the recommendation from Wiz

Well that's the attempt to upmarket the forum kicked into touch then. Do you like it with mushy peas or pickled onions Dotty? Must leave an awful smell in the Daimler does it not?

Kurnal,  I dont know where these places are. Can you see them from the 40th floor of your luxury offices in Matcock Shower?

Nearly, I will be partaking of fish and chips from Bishops at Shaftesbury Square for the next 3 nights, but without mushy peas.

Colin you would be very surprised at what I can see from the burrow. Belper is 10 miles North of Derby and Braunton 10 miles North of Barnstaple in North Devon. Did you ever try the original Harry Ramsdens in Guisely before they ruined everything through branding? That shop sadly closed in 2011 having been based in the same wooden shed complete with silver service and  chandaliers since 1928. :(
