Fire retardent paint

Hi

I had a conversation today with a hotel owner who said that he hada  rep round trying to flog fire retardent paint/varnish

Has anyone any experience with working with these products?

The claims are that they reduce surface spread of flame to 0...but what about the fire resistance of the structure?...ie 30 minute plasterboard walls etc  It came about where he wanted to put up a huge plywood board on a 30 minute protected corridor wall

oh yes I understand that some may say that the wall underneath it is 30 minute fire resistant and because of this it is ok...(I have heard this) dont put it up, full stop, would be my way of thinking

SSF is different to fire resistance. Why the plywood sheet in the first place?

yes I know this mate which is why I have seperated the two...some sort of heavy glass wipe board to go on the wall to give messages to punters apparently and this board is to go underneath...I was told this in a conversation over a few pints of thatchers cider so its a bit hazey

I suppose that the extreme case would be that in the event of a fire in the area the "glass" would possibly shatter and fall away exposing the board. In that case the use of the corridor would not be possible anyway if the heat is sufficient to break glass. Can't really see the sheet of ply affecting the fire resistance of the 30 min wall.
