Difficult to sum somebody up but Peter was the Founder and Technical Director of International Fire Consultants Ltd in 1985. He was also Chairman of the BS Comittee responsible for fire resistance test standards.

He was a bloody good bloke and will be sadly missed.

I often disagreed with Peter about things, but I liked him as a person, and he was big enough not to care if we had professional disagreements,  found him excellent company and loved to hear him lecture as he was truly excellent. He was a larger than life character. He once said to me that he and I rarely had time to sit down and have a drink as we were both always rushing and passing in the night. Life is too short... I used to tease him that I liked it when he stood beside me because he was the only person in fire safety who was worse dressed than me. He reckoned that it was our personal mark to both be scruffy. He has left his mark on the world of fire safety, and that is surely his accolade.

Sorry for late reply only logged back in today after some time away, I once heard him speak at a seminar for a couple of hours on firedoors and I have to say he was a very gifted speaker who was both extremely knowledgeable and very engaging.
These are my views and not the views of my employer
