Over 7.5 metres from flat entrance door to the stairs
« on: November 22, 2014, 08:02:19 PM »
Making an FRA in a house converted into a block of flats I found at the basement level a long L shape corridor where the distance from the further flat door entrance to the bottom of the stairs was 15 metres. The corridor is non ventilated at all and narrow 0.90 cm wide. The compartmentation does not seem to support a stay put policy.

A proper fire detection system is required. but what I am querying is the necessity to fit a Fire door half way the corridor(non ventilated). There is only one escape route.

Thank you ???

By assessment, what would a fire door along the corridor achieve other than ticking a box?

Just restrain the smoke that might come out of a flat, in case the entrance door is not properly sealed, situated at the end of the corridor, to spread into the first part of the corridor and giving a better chance to the occupants of those flats situated nearer to the stairs to evacuate. It's not an ideal situation but the way it's build doesn't seem to follow building regulations.
What would be other options?
