Thanks Kurnal I wasn't sure if there was a typo and it should have been UL (Underwriters Laboratory) the London Underground specification is a new one on me.
All my responses only apply to England and Wales and they are an overview of the subject, hopefully it will point you in the right direction and always treat with caution.

Yep fishy you are wrong. For a start, notional fire resistance is not a new term.  It was used donkeys tears ago in relation to the FR of lath and plaster ceilings.

I stand corrected - I'd love to know in which standard or guidance document?  I can't find it in BS 4422 or ISO 13943.  I know there were publications (like Read & Morris, if I recall correctly) that used to 'assign' fire resistance performances to traditional forms of construction, but I didn't know that particular term was used?

London Underground (LU) standard is Bb001 & is available via various technical standard portals, if you have the correct package.  I wouldn't wish to reproduce the relevant text, as it's their copyright.
