Its clearly some good old fashioned protectionism by the manufacturers that sit on this committee. Something that BSI should have picked up.

It's not the first time either - In the draft of the current version of Part 3 a new reason for condemning an extinguisher was added that would mean any extinguisher with incorrect colour coding would have to be replaced. This was mainly aimed at the (then newish) "Eco-Foam" extinguishers, some of which had around 6 times as much green background on the body as there was cream.

'Someone' (doesn't take much guessing) veto'd this and as a unanimous decision to adopt the new clause was thus unlikely it was dropped.
