It's been around in the US for decades (Chimfex), works like a highway flare (it's made by the biggest producer of highway flares in the US) and in fact if you look at the MSDS you'd be forgiven for thinking that it actually is just a re-branded highway flare!

At just under ?400 I'd stick with a stirrup pump, bucket and chimney rods!

Nice bit of lateral thinking if it is!?  Wouldn't like to be writing their business case describing how they're going to retire and live a life of luxury by trying to flog these at 400 quid each, though...

I'm not sure they're targeting the fire service as a route to market. It appears they're looking at pubs!!

I am not sure whether it would be appropriate for a member of public - perhaps in a panic - to use these devices in most cases or cost effective.

But for heritage buildings such as NT stately homes, houses in remote rural areas with not much prospect of the fire service arriving within 30 minutes - and perhaps, premises with thatched roofs - they may have their place.

There are so many questions, but I have put this on my Xmas list. I have already bought a 5ft x 5ft piece of plasterboard and some gaffer tape which I will store behind the sofa just in case

A better investment of the money would be in getting the chimney swept regularly?

I presume it is suffocating the fire but retained heat may cause the combustible material to simply reignite?
