WFPL in Fire Service Workplaces

I would welcome comments about the attitude and actions in respect of Fire Brigades compliance with,  and enforcement of, WFPL in their own Fire Service premises.

My employer is slowly coming to grips with this issue, WFPL has only been about eight years!! I guess that makes us no different to 'private sector' employers.

Have any Brigades used the approach of having some FSO's as asessors and others as auditors in the interest of introducing impariality?

I would welcome comments about other authorities?

From a employers perpsective  the largest metro brigade that one of my employers companies are in still very perscriptive. they want to tell us what to do and some do not even look at the FRA. However this depends on each borough and who you get as FSO. However neighbouring southern counties just want you to get on with it.
I am hoping RRO will give them a bit more guidance but I am not holding my breath

johndoe,
Many thanks for your reply. I was enquiring how fire brigades are getting along enforcing the WFPL on premises that they occupy themselves. I have edited my post to try and make it a little clearer.

I sent a memo three years ago to my then Stn Commander, which highlighted the lack of fire safety management within my station.

There were about twenty points in the memo including: No AFD (not even M system)and virtually no fire separation between the appliance room  the accomodation area. Many of the 20 items had been highlighted during a FRA inspection 2 years prior and had been ignored.

I had a very angry response from my line managers. They at first said that the WP regs didn't apply as "After all we're all Firefighters"(!).I pointed out they were wrong and suggested that might be news to the cleaners, cook and contractors.

They then accused me of trying to stir up trouble (who me??!). After several weeks, they said that all the points raised were being addressed in a programme of changes to be implimented over the next 10 years!

So to sum up, we (LFB) give punters 3 months to bring their house in order whilst we give ourselves the luxury of a decade.

The words 'Conflict' and 'Interest' spring to mind

Messy,
Many thanks for the reply, from what you say it seems things are about the same  in the Great LFB as they are out here on the Welsh Border,  although probably your buildings are a lot bigger and have a lot more people in them than ours.

It's quite shocking, I wonder what their insurers think about that.
