Linear Heat Wire Alarm
« on: December 05, 2005, 02:58:03 PM »
Has any one else dealt with proposals to install a linear heat wire detection system, particularly in a cold storage warehouse? Tried looking on the internet but all I get is the standard promo guff from manufacturers, but nothing critical.

Has anyone got any comments?

They all perform slightly differently.

Some of them get less sensitive as the wire gets longer. Some give an indication of where the fire is along the length of the wire others don't.

Normally used to protect cable trays, electrical distrubution boards service ducts and in your case warehouse shelving etc.
You get 'one shot' which means once it's activated it's caput and analogue.
They have the same coverage as point detection if installed within 150mm of the ceiling.

For the manufactures guff, the guff should be followed for their install instructions for length, joining fixings and set up etc.

Think of a line heat detector, particularly of the non-integrating type as like an infinite line of point heat detectors and you will not go far wrong.
