I have a client with a new build sheltered scheme having 3 floors, compliant TDs to 3 stairs, one at each end of the building and one in the centre. The two at the ends of the building are ok but I am not sure about the central stair.
This stair has a lobby at GF as it is accessed from the entrance which is also the lounge area. However at the two upper floors the stairs open onto the corridor with cross-corridor doors either side. I wonder why the stair at these floors doesn't have a door to the stair.
The problem is that all the guides only show diagrams of multi-stair buildings having two stairs not one where there is a central stair served by the same corridor.
Diagram 3.7 showing corridor approach to a single stair shows both cross-corridor doors and a door to the stairs providing 3 doors from a flat to the stairs. I know this is a different scenario but can't understand why these doors are not present for this staircase if they are needed for the single stair.
If firefighting at first floor, this would also potentially smoke log the head of the stair and section of corridor at second floor (despite the vent).
Any thoughts?
