LGA guidance for flats - change of status
« on: February 11, 2020, 10:37:54 AM »
Not really my field, but I have noticed that the LGA say that their purpose-built flats guidance is "...no longer comprehensive..." - I infer a tendency to distance themselves from it?  Would leave a significant hole in the available guidance if it were to be completely withdrawn?

I'd say that was because it doesn't really go into any of the external issues that were the subject of the many post Grenfell Advice Notes.

As it has been confirmed as still relevant by MHCLG if used in conjunction with the Advice Notes I'd still use it (in lieu of anything better) until it gets updated (if ever, LACORS is supposed to be being  updated but no sign yet!)

Probably backside covering, if it wasn't for MHCLG continuing to support and reference it I get the feeling the LGA would have pulled it fully and dipped out of any involvement in fire safety in the future.

It did tell people to be careful about overcladding with rainscreen cladding.

The issue is more one of politics than anything else. the guidance is still current and has been stated by the Minister as such.
