Basement Car Park - Storage of Walk-in fridge.
« on: October 30, 2021, 12:26:12 PM »
Hello all,

Scenario: possibility block of flats (5 storey), ground floor used as commercial premises with basement car park.
Pizza parlour is due to open in one of the commercial units and they are utilising their basement as as a dining area, Pizza oven and takeaway area is on the ground floor.
The basement car park is not being used for vehicles for now. Could the pizza owner utilise an area for a walking fridge to maximise the basement seating area?

The landlord has said if it is acceptable he would consider it.

Thanks in advance

Before all that I'd want to be assured that the basement area has the required means of escape, lighting and warning in the first place as what is usually present in small block basements used as car parks is far different from a place of assembly used for dining.

If this is OK, then move onto assessing the risk from further significant changes.

Has it gone through planning/building control for change of Purpose Group and alterations?

Thanks Anthony, the basement does have the required means of escape, emergency lighting and signage within.

The basement dining area has, an exit leading directly into the car park and the owner of the Pizzeria has asked the landlord if he can position the walk-in fridge in the car park.

I very much doubt if he has gone through Building Control.

Thanks again.
