Electric risers in older blocks

In older, purpose-built blocks of flats, there are sometimes electric risers, with very poor fire compartmentation, including very thin doors, maybe 15mm thick.
What were the rules with older blocks in regards to electric risers? And would they still be considered acceptable today?
