I am sure this US idea for reducing fire service costs whilst simultaneously improving housing stock won't have escaped 2 Jags (whose ODPM dept has responsibility for housing and fire service)

What a cracking idea!  I can imagine a fire truck turning up with a gaggle of pi**ed up students on it (yes I am implying that students drink - been there, got the t-shirt!) and trying to effectively contain an incident.  Or better still first thing in the morning dehydrated and hung over.  I would like to see how much spew you can get in a BA mask whilst donned!

On a more serious note the folllowing thoughts came to me:

Lack of experience, training time, high turnover of students, driving ability, attending off station courses.  Could they do all this and be a full time student aswell?

Now I know what a wonderful job most of our UK retained colleagues do with only two hours training a week but there aren't many stations with a student majority crew.

I am going now I've dug a big hole and I've got a big can of worms open!!
I am sorry if I offend anybody although if gold medals were dished out for it I would have quite a few!!
