Children and spinal board problems

I have identified a problem when trying to secure a child to a KED spinal boards. The head blocks are suitable to secure a childs head to prevent lateral movement. However the blocks are to tall meaning the childs head is beneath the height of the blocks so the velcro straps fail to prevent lateral movement. Anyone any ideas of products or solutions.

Child versions of most spinal immobilisation & extrication equipment are available. I also suggest you cross post your question on the forum at www.ambulance999.co.uk as you will get a good response from on there

I can recall a job where the 'ambulance crew' boarded a child and they used micropore tape on the forehead then directly onto the board.  This was followed by putting the headblocks on.  The tape stopped any forward motion and because it was thin the velcro blocks could still be attached.  

I also believe you can pack out under the straps - between the casualties head and the strap with any suitable dressings.

With respect and I know we are here to help people but isn't this an ambulance service problem?

Not really just for Paramedics.  A lot of appliances carry the KED.  Not one I really like as it is difficult to get on and can cause the trappee some discomfort when your attaching the straps.

Once on though, a good tool.

Thanks Anthony I will try the ambulancce forum. but in the mean time we will also try the idea of packing the straps or micro pore tap as methods of securing, a childs head.
