Evacuation Notices
« on: April 24, 2006, 09:14:31 AM »
Is it necessary to include a building plan giving evacuation directions on fire action notices in rooms in university halls of residence or will an 'off the shelf' sign suffice?  I'd be very grateful for help with this.

Its never essential to include a plan but it does make the directions very clear especially where the occupants may not be familiar with the building or may not understand a written notice in English.
Some University Halls are let out during vacations and if this is the case the plans may be of considerable benefit.
The decision therefore rests on the profile of the occupants, any unusual features of the building and how effective any briefing or familiarisation training is.

Thanks for that Kurnal, I was reluctant to accept advice from our local FRS that it was a requirement under the signs & signals regs. and that it was retrospective.
