Recriutment dilema... Help???
« on: September 12, 2006, 11:15:54 PM »
Hi i was after some strong info on something that is concerning me,prefarabley from someone in the know from human resources or something but any help is much appreciated!

Well here's the dilema...

I applied to two different brigades and was successful in my application to both and i was offered a contract for my second choice brigade, 2 days into my course i got my contract for my first choice brigade asking me to start approximatly a month later, so i decided to leave the course i was on and take up the offer on my 1st choice which i have done only a week after starting the other course!

My concern is this... After leaving a brigade as a trainee after only a week im worried this may affect my appointment with the other brigade as 1) it looks really bad and 2) ive now been employed between when i got my contract and my start date so not sure if this will affect my references.

I know im probably worried about nothing but as im sure most of you will know when uve wanted something for so long you just hope everything goes without a hitch as you dont want any excuse to be kicked out an left with nothing!!!

Help or advise please!!!!!

If you ask to speak to someone in the Human Resources Dept. in confidence I'm sure they'll be able to reassure you on this matter, alternatively you could try Citizen's Advice who can give some guidance on employment problems.  You haven't done anything wrong and you have to look after your own interests not theirs!

If your people giving you references are good, then that will not have any baring.  I had a similar thing when I started my career.  Got offered 2 more that i'd applied for at the same time.  This one came through first and the basic course was into it's 3rd week when Igot the offers.  I spoke to someone in confidence, and the first couple of years were suddenly a lot harder for me than others.  Maybe testing commitment or what ever...
I guess with hind sight, I would still be honest, but would not offer anything up unless specifically asked.
You have already shown your desire to suceed with one by giving up another.  So long as the offer of your preferred is solid.  The old adage of 'a bird in hand is better than 2 in a bush'...

All the best
