Developing a training session
« on: November 17, 2006, 10:16:55 PM »
I am currently in the process of applying for a position within my brigades training division. Today I received a letter informing me that as part of my selection interview process, I need to make a 10 minute presentation on "Developing a Training Session"  I knocked up a powerpoint presentation on things I thought were relevant, but I would also appreciate other perspectives so that I don't get blinkered in to my own ideas being the right ones.

Its worth remembering who the presentation is supposed to be pitched at and make sure its not "death by powerpoint". These days those taking on trainers are interested in how you deal with those who may have trouble with the content of you presentation. The jargon for this is Differentiation. This basicaly means that you need to ensure that you have taken into acount the needs of those who, for instance, have Dyslexia. This is easily addressed in the short term by perhaps producing your hand outs on coloured paper instead of white and by using larger or more suitable fonts ie comic sans. Remember to stick to your alloted time and make sure you run through it a couple of times before the event. Good Luck.

Cheers, some good advice there.  I have done a presentation on powerpoint but like you said, it isn't death by powerpoint, I've tried to list bullet points and give information from my notes on a convesational basis to avoid this. I've also timed a few practice runs at home, my watch are going to have to tolerate me using them as guinea pigs next week on nights.
Thanks once again.
