cuts in devon

The cfo of devon wishes to downgrade Illfracombe to day crewing,to save £334,000 a year the loss of these w/t posts has a second effect in that most of the 9 men provide rds cover at thier local stations which like many allready struggle to provide cover,at some of the rds stations day cover would cease & then we know what happens to the station then.It should be noted that the expenses of a husband & wife team in the government exceeded £300,000 last year ,little wonder out of a watch of 17 only 4 bothered to vote for anyone ,i shall not be bothering any more.

It is actually Devon and SOMERSET fire and rescue service now, although it is very easy to get the feeling that Devon would prefer to forget about that!

I think there are three other stations affected by similar measures although I can't remember them all off hand, Plympton is one I think?

Andy, a bit picky that.  The reality of the Government modernisation agenda is coming hard.  Soon, as the Japanese model that was favoured by the Audit Commission hits harder, there will be less and less reactive firefighters on the streets.  The CFOA puh for domestic sprinklers will take us back to Plaques n the wall for those that can afford it.

Quite disgraceful really, especially in light of the Newquay hotel fire.  In these overcrowded holiday towns, it is absolutely critical that the first response to any fire is met in minutes.  To have to wait for a retained crew to respond, trying to negotiate the congested, narrow streets is utter madness.  Has this particular CFO never heard of isomorphic learning?

That is the point ,these bizzare cuts will remove both w/t & rds posts in places that are struggling to turn ANY pump out ,who do these CFO serve only their political masters not people of the county. When was the last time a CFO accused his masters in Whitehall of putting peoples lives at risk, still there seems to be enough in the pot for ID cards  so we should be allright
