BS 476 part 22
« on: January 19, 2008, 12:17:11 PM »
Hello,

I am not an expert in fire regulations. I heard about the BS 476 part 22. As far as I know part 22 describes the fire text on building materials. I would like to have more about the test method like:

- How is the test done?
- What ratings can be achieved?
- What are the test criteria?
- With what temperature is the test done?
- etc....

Is here someone who could help me in that? Where can I find more information about that?

Thanks in advance for your support!

Manolo

Part 22 is one of many fire tests. You could do worse than start here.

Its a fire resistance test.

The sample - usually a door or wall etc. Is put in front of a great big furnace.

The time it takes to burn through is described as the period of fire resistance.

The classification is usually given in 30 Minute slots - so you get 30 Minute doors, 2 hour walls etc.

This is split into 3 criteria,

Integrity (are there any holes with flames coming through)
Capacity (if is loadbearing will it fall down)
Insulation (does it get so hot that things on the other side catch fire)
