Try googling "automatic Opening Vents" many sites and suppliers come up together with case studies. Presumably you are interested for systems for flats or do you have another application in mind?

Mechanical Ventilation instead of natural is also taking off now and is often considered to be so superior than natural ventilation that extended travel distances are allowed- and of course the typical mechanical vent shaft is often 600mm square rather than 1.4m.

Personally I am a little dubious about relaxing travel distances too much- because it leads to more flats per corridor and therefore a higher risk of fire occurring. Yes its ok showing that the mechanical system is less susceptible to wind pressures and can move more air than natural ventilation- but you are starting from the BRE research fire size and assumptions such as the door to the flat wll be 1/4 open and the fire size will be very limited- 250kw if I recall.
