Phased Evacuation
« on: January 29, 2008, 08:27:01 PM »
In the 2007 edition of the Approved Document, B1, which accompanies the Building Reguations the standard for evacuation for phased evacuation has changed.  It now states that people with reduced mobility and the floor of origin go first.  It used to state that people with reduced mobility the floor of origin and the one above go first.  My question is what happens to phased evacuation buildings where the strategy complied with the older version but not now with the new.  This also affects the way FRS tackle fires on the upper floors of high rise buildings.

Well spotted Jokar. Sorry but dont have any answers though. Dont remember this change being highlighted on any of the 3 B regs seminars I attended in connection with the new ADB. As you say there are implications all the way round, though in a new build with compartmentation in place it seems difficult to argue against either approach- provided everybody involved in the building design and alarm systems and strategy etc are singing from the same sheet!

If your building was designed (using ADB) using phased evac it will already have the necessary compartmentation etc so why not switch.
