Off Airfield Driving / Rough Surface Driver Training
« on: February 09, 2008, 08:40:31 PM »
Hello

First posting so please be kind.

Just curious to know what provision med / large airports (cat 7- 9 ) make regarding training / familiarisation for driving off airfield?

Plus how / where do you carry out off- paved driver training?

Any info is much appreciated

Cheers

Heathrow, we carry out monthly topography, off paved surface training, none.
Isn't it funny, how if you sit in a library and scream, everyone looks at you and tuts...but do the same thing on an aircraft and everyone joins in!

As with heathrow, we carry out monthly training in outer response and undershoot/overshoot areas.

Every 6 months (i think) may be annually, we carry out practical off road driving. This is done in a designated patch of grass on the airfield with paved surfaces on all sides to alleviate the need for excessive steering etc.
