Rechargable torch

Anyone know of a good quality rechargeable torch which when on trickle charge will operate in the event of a
power failure to illuminate its general location?

When I first saw this post I didn't bother answering it because as far as I was concerned I thought there were dozens of such products about. I was going to leave it to everyone else to point Nearlythere in the right direction.

I bought one in IKEA about 6 years ago. It looks like a normal hand torch (with a swing head) that plugs into a wall mount cradle/recharge unit (a mains adaptor plugs into the cradle) The torch body contains replaceable ni-cad batteries. The torch has a three position switch: OFF/Iluuminate when not charging/Flash when not charging.

My recollection is that it cost less than £5. I wouldn't say it was a great build-quality product but it has worked perfectly for all these years.

I've just had another look at it and it has no manufacturer markings on it but it is CE marked!

I also recollect that I saw something very similar in Homebase a couple of years ago.

Can it really be right that no-one else has seen this sort product anywhere?

I also bought one a few years ago which had a beam light on the front and fluorescent tubes on the top. When plugged in it could be switched to illuminate in the event of a power failure. It was not fireman proof and did not last long but did get dropped a few times which would not help. I am trying to source a more robust, possibly with some sort of quality certification for use in a low occupancy area.
Anyone ever suggest one in a RA?

Buy a decent (sustained) yep I'm old school emergency fitting , whack a plug top with a flex  on it and plug it in , job done.

Can't really do that as it must be run off the lighting circuit for the immediate location but get your drift.

Why not wire a 2 amp socket off the lighting circuit , same as if you wanted table lamps etc

Argos do a rechargable torch that when in its holder and pluged in will switch on if the power fails, costs about £10
