Most unusual fire?????

I was out walking the dogs at about 11 o'clock 2 nights ago and came across a traffic sign on fire. Now I can understand somebody commiting an arson attack on a speed camera, but this was just a  2 foot high "name of the road" sign.
The 2 sides were plastic coated, and one was burning like the clappers.
There was nobody around that I could see, I had to knock on a couple of doors to get a bucket of water.

Strange!!!!

Anybody else got any weird fire situations??

The cause is glaringly obvious, you were walking the dogs.....clearly this created a phenomenon known as "Dog Burning".....the traffic sign burst into flames and went Woof!!

I remeber having to borrow 2 fire extinguishers from an Oneills in Kent on New years eve 2001 to put out a skip fire. I had to use my ID badge to borrow the extinguishers. I then had to comondere a plumbers van to get me to the incident to save the day

Yes I was drunk and no I didn't manage to put it out.

Not too unusual, but at a fireworks events where I was part of an ambulance crew when a policeman came up and asked if we had a fire extinguisher - I asked what for & he said a portaloo was on fire. I offered to assist and fetched  one (anticipating problems I'd added a fire blanket and a special larger extinguisher as well as the small AFFF's that came with the ambulance).

I walk over to the loo and indeed it had had it's entire bog roll supply stuffed in the hole and ignited. The door was shut and a hole had melted through the top & bottom panels. I got the police to clear the area and promptly snuffed the fire in seconds with  2.5 kilos of Blooming Clever Fire extinguishant.

5 minutes after this the stewards arrived rather too late with 2 x 9 litre waters which I used to cool off the remains. 5 minutes after that the fire brigade arrived upset at having nothing to do!

The lesson I learnt was that I should have put my debris gloves on rather than just my rescue helmet & visor as I have a small scar on my right hand from a bit of molten loo that caught me!

Turned out to fire in a certain manufacturers (now out of business) to discover a small fire in polyurethane cones growing out of all the internal surfaces of a pyramid shaped room. In the middle of the room was an electronic device under test which had set up a sympathetic vibration in the foam which resulted in friction and ignition. One of my crew produced a penknife, cut off and removed the smouldering cones. Job done.
Next night 2 senior Military Police guys (in civvies) came to the station and stamped all over the FDR 1 'Secret' and told me to submit it with only the date and attendance on it. Never heard another word about it.

We have received a strongly worded letter from solicitors asking your to say nothing more about this on FireNet.  Trust you will oblige.

Most bizzare fire attended was a blaze in a factory that produced domestic smoke detectors ( i kid you not)

Not unusal, but I started a chain of events that caused a fire:

I inspected an industrial site - multi unit, small businesses (fencing, builders storage etc). There was no file for the site, just one for an isolated building that had a fire cert. The whole site was a tip, with cylinders lying around, burning of industrial waste, open chemical barrels etc. I got the number of the owner, who had just wrestled control away from his business partner, and after years of neglect, wanted to get it in order, so was keen for me to give him advice.

One if my main concerns was the lack of fire separation between units, and told the guy that a fire in one unit could very easily spread into other units, and as the site was next to a railway line, told him of possible fines for causing delays to trains. So he agreed that it would be a good idea to put FR between units. The guy he got to do this was welding some fixings to the structure to put the boards, and sparks went down into a clothing recycling unit below, set it on fire, and wiped out four units, and delayed trains for several hours.
