New Guy
« on: December 12, 2008, 12:56:26 PM »
Hi to all at this forum, I couldn't find an Intro topic so I created one to introduce myself before I start boring you with questions!
First off I am 15 and currently in App for the Army but am looking at the Fire Service if the Army doesn't work out or once I have left the Army. Thought I would get to know Training details and requirements for the Fire Service just in case all does not go as planned. Thanks alot for reading!

Hiya Just you. Welcome.
Theres loads of folk on this forun who will help you and there is another site www.fireservice.co.uk from which you will pick up a lot of advice. There are cadet schemes running in some areas for young people with an interest in the fire service. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply. Wish I could use the fireservice.co.uk site but they won't allow me because I have a Hotmail e-mail address! I'm sure this one will do mind.

Cant you set up another email account - most ISPs allow you to do this free- even if you just use it for the fire service site?

Have you also seen the fire gateway site that carries a lot of recruitment information?

I suggest to answer your query you should also post in the service training or recruitment thread on this site  but give your post a different title so that you are not duplicating threads.

The rules say:
"We recommend you sign up with an email account which is supplied through the company that supplies your internet connection. We do not allow hotmail or other free email accounts as these accounts can expire quickly if not used on a regular basis and can be set up by anyone wishing to spam the forums."
but I am unaware how I am supposed to get these e-mail accounts. If anyone knows how these work it would be helpfull but I am sure this site will give me all I need to know and more! Thank you for your replies.
I have not seen this "fire gateway site" unless you mean this site (Clicky) which has answered a lot of my questions already. Many thanks,
J_M

Do you use the computer from home? Does your internet service provider not give you a facility to set up email accounts?  eg Bt will give you a someone at btinternet.com., sky will give you a sky.com address etc. To use this you can either use a mail client on your pc like outlook or outlook express- these have wizards to help you set the account  up once you have the mail server details, (eg a pop 3 account on the mail.btinternet.com mail server)  or you can log into the bt.com website and run your email  through internet explorer.

What century do they operate in?  People use hotmail etc because they can keep the address when the move ISPs!  If they are worried about people spamming the forums they should employ a forum admin...............
