Zone Charts

With an existing site there should have be zone chart in place, if not its the responsible persons duty to rectify.

With a new build it is normally the installer that provides the zone chart as part of the specification.

Grey area time, where a system is extended (and it is not specified who is responsible for the zone chart)would you think the following applies;

a) it is reasonable to expect the site to have a zone chart that can be modified

b) it is reasonable to charge for provision of a zone chart

c) it is the responsibility of the installer to provide

d) it is the responsibility of the commissioner to provide

e) something else ?

Fire Safety order may place duties on a number of people but the bottom line is that its down to the responsible person to make sure that the zone chart is provided.

Apparently; the RP (Responsible Person) has a lot of duties above his head.

What is the right definition of the RP? and

What specific training should he have to carry out his responsibilities by the book?

When a RP can be called a RP? Is it just a matter of being a landlord, owner, manager…, and that’s it?

Why not the name of (Fire Safety Engineer) or (Fire Risk Engineer)?

Usually PRs do things just because they have been told to do so...

What do you think?

Yes but really the contractor should have stated when quoting that the chart would need updating or renewing as part of the modification works and allowed for updating as installed drawings as well.

b) it is reasonable to charge for provision of a zone chart
Yes, if it was mentioned when providing the quotation for the modification works.

c) it is the responsibility of the installer to provide
In these circumstances, if he forgot to include it when quoting the job I would say yes.

d) it is the responsibility of the commissioner to provide
No

e) something else ?
....... two prozak,  cup of coffee and an hour playing on autocad....????

a zone chart for sure but sometimes the guys that do the cad work are reluctant to make them availbale so normally convert to a pdf file that can't be altered.

b) it is reasonable to charge for provision of a zone chart

definately either in your quote or if you take over a site without one

c) it is the responsibility of the installer to provide

d) it is the responsibility of the commissioner to provide

no unless it was in your tender on supply and commission job

e) something else ?
