Radio Fire Detection
« on: March 05, 2009, 07:57:35 PM »
As the EN standard arrived for these, radio systems should now comply with this.  Although they have been given 3 years to comply with it (from last March, I do believe).

BS5839, the 2008 amedment says, radio systems should comply with the EN standards.

Therefore, at present if certain manufacturers equipment is installed e.g. EMS, EDA, there equipment doesnt currently comply with the EN standard, does this mean the system cannot comply with BS5839, as they haven't given a period of time for compliance like EN has, it just states, they should comply with the EN regs.

Will this have to go as a variation on the certificates etc as a variation to BS5839?

Your thoughts please?

I wouldent do anything to drastic at the moment, I know there is lots of debate at the moment on radio systems in the BSI about this issue.

ooooeerrrr........

Have had the same debate in my head and with EMS.....

Surely if the BS says to comply with EN54 and EN54 says "not for another 3 years" then you are complying with BS....... if you get my drift.......!!

I see what you are saying, interesting point.

Although, I did do a little test run recently with a customer, and got him to comtact one of these manufacturers and ask them the same question.  They were honest, and didnt deny it, but said no they wont comply.  It appears they aren't saying they dont comply unless asked.  But it is going to be an ongoing one I feel.

Obvioulsly the suppliers 868MHz systems currently being banded around at present are going to push this hard as they will comply.
