Probably much more economical to lose a fire station every 3 or 4 decades than install and maintain property detection systems throughout Service over the same period.

I have seen some realistic drills carried out on fire stations, but that beats them all.

The brigade computer will throw up a visit from a fire safety officer now !

I take it you are not familiar with the local hostilities between certain groups in that area and anything that symbolise authority, including the NIFRS. They have tried to burn (petrol bomb) the vehicles on numerous occasions, so the station would be no surprise .

I always find it better to do a little bit of research before posting an "opinion" - electrical fault has been given as most likely cause and it was definately accidental.
Tenders have been targetted (as well as abulance NIAS vehicles) but this has generally occurred during riotous outbreaks etc.
However,this is nothing to do with "local hostilities" but due to a total lack of respect for anything,which isn't unique to over here -

I was just stating that it would not be a surprise if it was deliberate. And for someone who has family in N.Belfast it most is to do with 'local hostilities' from the youth gangs that attack these appliances and the reasons behind it to them is that anything in authority is a target for their aggression (in other words an excuse due to as you say 'lack of respect' and to cause maximum disruption for the gang leaders).

There have been many occasions where deliberate fires have started to ambush the arriving fire appliances which is shocking, but a sad state of affairs, and agree it is not solely happening over there but all over the UK.
