PETROLEUM SITE

Hi
Have been asked to quote to add 2no sounder strobes around a petroleum site .both s/s will be out side the high risk zone areas. The cable will run through the high risk area to get to the poistion of the  S/S.
Will it still be ok to use LSF SWA for the cable installation.

IMO no as any sounder circuit is critical path .

in bs 5839 it does say that you are able to use swa as long as it is armoured fire-resistant cable conforming to BS 7846  so does anybody think this is ok to use

If you source a SWA cable that meets the requirements of BS5839 then there's no problem with the cable complying, what may be an issue if it is compliant with the site specific requirements, if you see SWA used for other systems its a pretty safe bet but I would be covering my backside in our method statement and RA for the works, including what cable and where it was planned to be installed, for the customer to sign off, its their site and they should be telling you what is acceptable and what isn't in the specification of works.

Either way I would be looking at intrinsically safe devices such as;
