Fire alarm panel identification
« on: June 07, 2010, 10:27:15 AM »
Anyone know what panel this may be? It's a 'Fire alarm control  Series 6000 - EN54-2 1997'.

It's obviously no more than 13 years old, but had numerous faults and looks like it's been silenced (not good in a care home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o ) - the call points haven't been tested for about a month, so this could have been going on for a while.... The fire alarm instructions are dated 1991  :-\

Previous 6 monthly servicing/testing has been fine - but would it be worth recommending the new care home managers to get rid and install a new system? Or is it possible to upgrade this type? They currently rely on Dorgards, with a few mag door holders, and maintenance records of things like this aren't exactly... great. They also need to change a few detector heads to heat, and the provision of bells seemed sparse.

Looks like a Kentec Synchro panel - addressable using apollo protocols. You can download a manual here. http://www.kentec.co.uk/download_manuals.htm

Pretty well state ofthe art I would say compared to what many care homes have.

Why dont you like it? Probably just needs maintenance as they all do. I would ask questions of the management as to why this has been allowed to go on as long as it has.

Wow Prof.! You are even better than I originally thought!

How can you tell the panel is running Apollo protocol just by looking at a photo of it?

Well Wiz that was from experience of one similar installation but of course you are right and I probably assume too much.

That certainly looks the one, thanks!

I didn't say I didn't like it - it's those Dorgards I'm more wary of (one of them hasn't worked for 6 years...), but if the panel can handle more mag door holders/self closers, which I might have to recommend for the old dears' bedroom doors, then I'm happy :)

As I spoke to staff and residents through the day, the extent of the neglect over the past few years became more apparent. The care home is now managed by someone different so they should be more willing to keep on top of the maintenance  8)
