Fire Alarm Sounder
« on: September 20, 2010, 09:11:51 AM »
I have had a request from a health client who wants to paint over a red wall mounted sounder to make it same colour as wall due to some improvements being carried out. Does anyone know if guidance states a specific colour(i.e Red) or is it acceptable to change colour( as long as no interference with noise levels).

Nothing in BS sounders about colour preference.

As Nearlythere states there isn't anything stating that you cant change the colour.

Just make sure that whoever paints them doesn't damage the sounders by getting paint in all the inner workings.

Just make sure it isn't a combined sounder and beacon!

I believe visual alarms should be red or white.

Which curiously is the daftest colour to have it as it radiates less light than clear.

I think they should all be tartan and that the attention drawing signal of a voice alarm system should be Flower of Scotland.

Leave straight away? They'd all start running to get away from the noise. And it's very dangerous to run with fingers in ears!

Don't forget that the 2.5 minutes evacuation time you all use to calculate exit widths came from a fire In Edinburgh when they played God save the King. I am surprised it even took 2.5 minutes to clear the place.

We gave the world malt whisky, haggis, tablet, the telephone, television, penicillin, tarmac , deep fried mars bars and copper wire......and exit widths. How cool is that?

Oh AND the Proclaimers.

...and you can trust Determinations of Scottish Government, as they are an entirely honest lot.

I think it unwise to trust those in England personally.
