Wireless Cat A fire door retainer released
« on: September 22, 2010, 09:50:45 AM »
The System X transmitter (TX) is wired directly into the fire alarm panels fire and fault relay or loop via an I/O unit. The System X unit utilises Wi-Fi technology to communicate with all linked devices,

The link between the transmitter and receiver unit(s) is completely wireless. The transmitter constantly monitors the status of each linked device including the battery life and signal strength.

Is this a new device Piglet, I thought it had been on the market for sometime?

I am aware also of a similar device the Geofire Salamander which also claims to be Category A in accordance with BS7273 part 4. There also seems to be a heavy marketing campaign ongoing between the two.

Now as far as advertising is concerned theres a balance to be drawn between discussing the technical merits, benefits, advantages and disadvantages of new innovations and new developments on the market, that benefits us all in a similar way to CPD but I would not want to see the forum being used directly for marketing purposes.

Sorry Mr K

The fireco version has a range of 1000m the Geofire is 100m

The fireco version can control 255 devices the Geofire can do 99

Oh and I wasn't sure which thread to post it.

The other version you refer to was a wireless system x but that was Cat B

Yes, the original Dorgard X was, like the Dorgard, acoustically activated, in turn radio releasing individual door retainers - this one can be i/o linked into the actual fire alarm system.

As for marketing, Fireco seem to be winning - I've never come across any non hardwired hold open devices in the field other than the Dorgard range, even though they do exist.

Met the Fireco designer at Birmingham last year, seems switched on and gave us a couple of Buds to quench our thirst ;D
Also saw Salamander, appears to quite sturdy which in my environment would be a bonus (assuming we had any money)

Kurnal, I keep telling you that you need to do more CPD. This is an entirely new product, and the mechanism of the door release mechanism, while long existing, works quite differently from the other product to which you refer. It seems legitimate to me for this chap to tell people about it.
I worry about the advice and info I read on Firenet nowadays , which is so often shoot from the hip but never mind checking the facts first.

You are no doubt correct on all counts Colin.   I had not seen the tech spec of the new system X but having been subjected to two marketing calls first from Geofire and then one from Fireco this week I had already put the guards up. As I said to Piglet its good to hear of new products here and to have the opportunity to discuss them.

That apart its nice to see you around here more often even if you are a little uncharacteristically grumpy.
Oh well never mind I guess when we young chaps get a cold an elderly gentleman such as yourself is more likely to develop complications. Ive been blowing and sneezing a fair bit too since that last FIA meeting.

Get well soon.
