Cold smoke seals

Is anyone aware of any fire door manufacturers that achieve an S rating for their doors without the use of a protruding brush or blade type seal?

Seen a number of proprietory door sets with batwing seals in the angle of the frame and rebate. Often with a metal frame though.

You could go to most of the reputable seal manufacturers (members of IFSA) and I think if they don't do a batwing themselves, they'll point you at someone who does.   Offhand I seem to remember Lorient selling them.

I don't know what your looking for really but have you tried Envirograf.  We recently (last 12 months) have retro fitted their intumescent door seals to 600+ flat front doors of our high rise blocks. They did not need any brushes or fixing bracket, they came complete with double sided tape and just stick to either the frame or door.

I would be interested to hear if you have had any issues with durablility of self adhesive seals of this type (of any manufacture).

I have seen very many examples of self adhesive  seals falling apart after a year ot two, and damage to the intumescent material.

I'm not sold on this type of seal, i have also seen them "falling apart" after time nor do i like the blade type which as soon as they get damaged at a point start coming away in strips. Although more modern companies claim this is not an issue now. I do prefer the brush however a maintenance programme is required as these seals work by compression and the brush will eventually get squished (technical term). The other issue with brush is that it is unlikely to meet the acoustic requirements detailed in Building regs.

Batwings are advertised for retrofitting doors to make them suitable for smoke control and can be fitted to timber doors.

Just wondering what the application was.
