FRA- Caravan/Camping Sites
« on: March 04, 2011, 08:40:31 AM »
I know that fire safety order applies to holiday homes, caravans etc. Can anyone confirm if the order applies to the actual Caravan/Camping site in respect of "fire points" etc. I cannot find a specific reference!

Don't see why not as it is a relevant place with common areas.
We're not Brazil we're Northern Ireland.

Yes The fire safety order applies. The buildings are simply dealt with in the normal way, the question is what is a reasonable standard to apply to the general camping areas? I use the local licensing standards which generally are based on the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1961.

Hi Jake

Sorry for late reply ...

Unfortunately there is little guidance on fire safety on campsites / touring caravan sites.

It may be worth casting your eye over the model standards document for residential / mobile parks and using that as a marker and it also might be worth talking to some of the Coastal Brigades, some of them have publish localised guidance - Cornwall Fire Service in partiular used to publish something on their website (cant find it now) as did Devon prior to their merger with Somerset Fire Brigade.
