New Residentila Care Guidance
« on: March 10, 2011, 08:10:32 AM »
Hi All

New, additional, guidance for operators of residential care homes has been published to clarify and complement existing guidance for the sector published by the Department for Communities and Local Government.

See Link http://www.nashics.org/uploads/documents/23641652.pdf

The additional guidance, published by the National Association for Safety and Health in Care Services (NASHiCS) and the Chief Fire Officers’ Association (CFOA), is designed to deal with issues including:

1.  evacuation of a protected zone in 2.5 minutes;
2. rooms of residents unable to evacuate – upgrading to 60 minutes' fire resistance;
3. staff remaining with residents who are unable to evacuate;
4. the use of external fire escapes by residents;
5. the travel distance of evacuation routes; and
6. the use of by-pass routes.

Its a shame that the people who represented the sector are all from the biggest companies! Bupa, Southern Cross, Anchor - All ones who can afford ample staff, decent training and the best precautions.

The rest of the sector seems to of ignored.

The guide is not advocating the 2.5minutes, it is dealing with the subject.
