New office store room
« on: December 03, 2012, 02:49:46 PM »
Hi all

An office has a fire door to it and auto detection within. There are male and female WC's within this office that they want to convert into a store room, (usual office type storage) and this store will also have auto detection. Does this door need to be a fire door?  My view is that it doesn't because any fire will be stopped at the office door, plus it has auto detection so everyone will easily get out at the early stages of any fire. There are no ignition sources.

What does anyone else think?

You wouldn't normally fit a fire door or require additional detection for a store like this in an office environment unless it opened onto the escape route.  You'd need to properly assess the risks of what's being stored though.  Be guided by your friendly neighbourhood fire risk assessor.  ;)

The WC's already had auto detection in and one detector will be staying..cheers

No harm in that.  The more the better.
