The Scottish Fire Service will show a specially commissioned video on the Rosepark Care Home fire; which will help highlight some of the common management mistakes that contribute to fire loss in the UK.

This presentation examines: the nature and level of the threats faced by an organisation, the likelihood of adverse effects occurring, the level of disruption and costs associated with each type of risk and an examination of the effectiveness of controls in place to manage those risks.

A look at the structuring of fire risk assessments works; internal or external risk assessment and how to ensure you have an appropriate and competent risk assessor to complete the work.

1.25 – 1.55 pm Action planning for remedial works identified in fire risk assessments.
Each fire risk assessment will generate ‘significant findings’ which will often generate required actions. When multiplied across a portfolio of buildings the management and priority given to these actions can be problematic. This presentation will identify how to collate this information; it will define ‘reasonably practical’ and through case studies illustrate good practice.

This naturally leads to good engagement, ownership and participation during writing of bespoke training plans as part of a resilient, fit for purpose, self-sustaining fire safety management system; balancing competing safety demands with training needs.
