Fire Safety Textbook
« on: September 01, 2005, 05:24:17 PM »
Can anyone recommend a fire safety textbook that I could use as the basis for training someone in the first principles of fire safety?
I fancy it may be of more benefit for the young lady concerned if we could refer to a set text rather than me having to work from scratch.
I do not have time to write my own structured material before she starts with my Brigade.
I am trying to source copies of current FSC notes from colleagues, but these may not be forthcoming.

Try this document at this web site.

Fire Safety an Employers guide

http://www.archive.official-documents.co.uk/document/fire/index.htm

or

http://www.hantsfire.gov.uk/prevent/safetyregs/regulations.html

They appear to have a reasonable amount of relevent information...however if you are'nt aware of these documents are you the right person to provide the training.

It may be appropriate to buy in the professional skills required or send some/all your staff to a recognised training centre.

And Colin I'm not touting for business

I think he was looking for something a bit less Janet and John, and that looked beyond the proverbial nose of the Regs to explain the princiles of fire safety. Of course, I could be wrong but I am sure he knows all about the J&J stuff to which you refer.

Yes, Paul its fine. I forgot to mention to her you would be calling, so just explain that I said it was ok. It may take a few days for her to sort out, as I have no PA just now (know any good ones looking for a job?) and she is working with a temp.

Colin,
Many thanks, It looks like Mr Underdown is the man!

Davio1960,
Ouch!, I am aware of the 'employers Guide', and it is a bit Janet and John for what I want.
Thank you for the suggestion of a training centre, but this initial training has to be done in house, and I think we can probably assure the officer of a firmer foundation by doing it ourselves.
Many Instructors at some well known centres have very little practical experience or in depth knowledge of the subjects they teach.
We may send the officer on appropriate courses at a later date...probably a few bob going Colin Todd's way!
Many thanks for the reply anyway

mr todd, child number two will be in the sordid word of job seeking in around six years time - following her final years at big school, following which i fully expect her to be fully gowned and hatted. the offer of an opportunistic opening may be of interest to her - even more so as a pa to yourself she can plot to drain your knowledge into her plans for world domination and the extension of the capitalist state. until then perhaps ive heard there are a few redundancies at the odpm in the offing which may fill the interim period?

Davie, There will always be a job at C S Todd & Associates Ltd for little Beverley Beverley, so she can keep her ole dad in his retirement home (will it be Moreton or Buckingham Palace that the Rack has flattened to make retirement homes) and continue his subscription to the communist party. Many thanks for the offer of ODPM staff, but I find that female civil servants are often very plain, dull, badly dressed and uninspiring. An over-generalization I would be first to admit, but I do reject CVs from PAs with largely government or local authority backgrounds. In the brave new world that you are creating for me, it is still a prejudice that does not get you put in a re-adjustment centre for 25 years.

Colin,
Many thanks for the discounted copy of your book, it was just what I was after. The Fire Authority's cheque is in the post!

I thought that that was one of the World's 3 greatest lies, Brian? Glad is was of help to you anyway. A new edition will be published next year when I can get my head round the works of Shakespeare and Henry Root, produced by the ODPM.
