Window closing
« on: June 02, 2015, 11:41:19 PM »
Has anyone come across self closing devices suitable for windows that could be connected to automatic fire detection, in effect something that is the reverse of a ventilation window automatic opener.

Can't you use a conventional chain drive AOV unit wired to close on operation of the alarm? The motor has open and close wiring options.

Thanks for the info, I will pass it on. Not being a sparky or alarm engineer I was unaware that the chain drive I quite often see on Velux windows could work in reverse so that the operation of the alarm closes the window.

theres a bunch of them where I am now, just above my head in an atrium.

Smoke tight construction containing the atrium on the upper floors has some window vent things that shut on detection. A chain drive type gadget is involved.

Wee B , given your stature, if the atrium is just above your head, is the roof high enough.  And another thing, if you were there on 3 June, why did you not return my call???

That might explain the flashing light on my phone. Its getting quite annoying.

Do the great british public not pay you until 6 minutes past 5.  I can always get your Scottish opposite number until well after that, albeit in his "office", at that time I can hear people shouting "its yoor roond , Wullie" and "giez a pint of heavy"or something, clearly having something to do with the circular shape of some construction that someone called William is considering for the purpose of the Building (Scotland) Regulations and something to do with the guidance on  floor loading in whisky bonds.
