Hello,

Would new cables, such as for a security alarm system, need to be secured with metal clips, if installed in plastic trunking (as sole means of support), on walls or ceilings on the escape routes?

Blimey, that will upset a lot of "security" and "Data" cable installers...... they'll have to buy a smaller drill bit and some rawl plugs .....

The 17th Edition is due to give way to the 18th in 2018, really just around the corner. As I understand it, in the 18th, all cabling will need to be secured to avoid premature collapse in a fire, irrespective of whether it is an escape route or not. It is something that should be considered during all fire safety inspections of buildings. If contractors are still doing it, they should be button-holed now.
