Sealant around fire alarm cables.

Some contractors have installed a fire alarm for us and have left some holes where cables go through walls.

1 - is there a specific type of sealant which should be used to fill these holes? As in complying to a certain bs?

2 - i guess all contractors should fill holes left in walls during work? Not just fire alarm installations?

All cables should be 'fire stopped' where they pass through fire separating elements (walls, floors, cavity barriers etc).  If you're in England, see section 10.17 in the Approved Document B (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/441669/BR_PDF_AD_B2_2013.pdf  ).  Not all walls or floors need to be fire separating elements, of course, & it's not generally regarded as good practice to fire stop when building services transit non-fire resisting elements.

Other than that, sealing is optional for fire safety reasons, but there might be other reasons why sealing is required (e.g. acoustic isolation; air tightness).

Standard problem alonso. Should maybe have been in the spec to repair breaches of compartmentation.
