The FSO doesn’t appear (to me) to include any requirement preventing disclosure of information by FRSs to other people. Is this correct?

FRSs are often asked by prospective buyers (and others) to divulge information about premises in their files.

I believe that the freedom of information legislation does make requirements about sharing information but has a lot of exceptions. One being that it does not override legislation restricting disclosure.

Under the current system the owner or occupier is usually required to give consent before information is passed to a third party.

Does anyone know what the position will be next April? Will the FRS have to provide copies of a fire certificates, enforcement notices, letters, etc to anyone on request?

You're quite right Steve, no equivalent Sec21 of FPA in RRO preventing disclosure of information. I believe they feel Data Protection Act & Freedom of Information Act will provide sufficient control in this area.
Are you aware that some bright spark is requesting details of all LFCDAs fire inspections under FOI Act?? I don't think he will succeed any other views would be appreciated.

Incidently Sec.21 prevented disclosure to third partys...it never said you can disclose info with permission, really requests for info should have been directed to owner occupier.

We have recently been asked to provide capacities for all nightclubs in our fair city.

the person asking for the information is a well known journalist and is doing it I belive to get information on certain premises such as LUL she is saying that MOP have a right to know how safe thses premises are and is requesting it under the freedom of information act but has little success but do not be surprised if she wins.
As for RRO (I hate it being called FSO) it does say that Enforcement notices will now be subject to public register nit just prohibition. Section 21 will cease to have effect and it will be up to the LA to decide wether it is in the public interest to release any information.

We can't continue to call it RRO. as there are now dozens of other RROs. We will still know what we're talking about but will anyone else?

We had the same thing with the "workplace regs" there are a whole sset of them and fire was just one of them.
