following on from a previous posting by smiffy, was there a prise in the competition set by mr todd?

my answer would have been

a conservative voting fbu ec member - no because an EC member would not stop that low (think about it!)

a kind and generous scotsman - no because no-one would have seen him do it and he certainly wouldnt tell anybody he'd found a fiver because he may have had to get the beer in - therefore logically no-one could pose the question as to what did happen because there is no evidence to suggest it did!!

santa - therein lies the real answer - remember that the question was set by a scotsman. if santa doesnt exist then the said scotsman would have to buy presents for his 'wee bairns' - if santa does exist then no need to buy presents cos he can blame it on santa when the 'wee bairns' are presentless or dont get what they want on crimbo morning!

so if santa does exist he could have taken the fiver, conveniently allowing the other two to enter the local hostelry, partake of some refreshment and when they go home penniless and persistent, blame it on the fat guy in the red coat for taking the money that was rightfully theirs.

Davey, you raise an interesting point. If a leaf in a forest falls, but there is no one there to see it fall, does it actually fall. Is the universe really expanding. (and will it all one day be controlled by you and The Rack?

colinski, but there may be evidence of the leaf falling to support your theory - in my answer to the poser you posed i proposed there was no evidence of said dosh, therefore my argument is still valid until shown otherwise not to be.

In a world in which the commies are plotting the downfall of society as we know it, you need to keep your ear to the ground, Davey, to such an extent that, if a fiver falls to the ground in Inverness you can hear it in Edinburgh. Which reminds me (and now old ''we have a problem'' Houston will shift these posts: The lone ranger was riding across the range one day, and he came across Tonto lying on the ground , ear to ground. What do you hear, quoth LR. Tonto replies, a stage coach. one driver, one man riding shotgun, two occupants, one a lady in red dress, other a man in top hat. Stage coach red in colour. Thats amazing, said the LR, and you can tell all this from listening to the ground. No way, says Tonto, the bastards ran me down just 5 minutes ago.
