emergency lighting testing

Hi all - just browsing BS9999:2017 as you do and find the under six monthly maintenance recommendations, testing emergency and escape lighting systems pops up as requiring an inspection and testing by a competent person.

My understanding was that the requirement was monthly and annual - what am I missing? Most companies offer their services on a monthly and annual basis as well.....

You aren't missing anything, it's yet another mistake in BS9999. BS5266 removed the 6 monthly part duration test in 2004.

...although there are some instances where BS 9999 deliberately contradicts the 'system' standards - e.g. power supplies to evacuation lifts, where BS 9999 recommendations are less onerous than BS 8519.  Not suggesting the same applies with this particular issue - although it might...
