Photos to enhance Fire raining
« on: March 21, 2006, 02:59:23 PM »
I saw some photos on a training course that reinforced the message about keeping fire doors shut.
Unfortunately, due to copyright issues the photos cannot be copied so I am looking for similar shots from another source.
Does anyone know of a central library of non-copyright photos of the effects of fire. I'm prepared to pay a small handling charge if necessary.
Thanks
John

Try  Devon Fire & Rescue site, the photos show the result of closed FR doors and roller shutters at a fire at Trago Mills shopping centre in 2004. Not sure about the copyright though.

i think you will find that all photographs are copyrighted, its just whether the 'photographer' makes their work available for free - if you think about it would you want your work being used by others to enhance their profit - i think its only fair that the photographers recieve due payment

im sure if you asked a local newshound if they would build up a 'portfolio' of fire shots for you to use on training courses im sure they would oblige.

quite a lot of firefighters and in particular fire investigation 'bods' will also have quite a few 'shots' - perhaps you could try them first?

Thanks for the link The Colonel and Scott. Just the sort of thing I was looking for. Having spent many rainy hours on 'holiday' in Devon wandering around Trago Mills it gives a whole new perspective.

I agree Dave Bev, I have no problem paying a small fee or crediting the source which is I why I posted to this group.

We had a major fire at a local hotel a number of years ago but the local press don't seem to be able to come up with any pictures. I know the local FRS do have photos but they will not share due to copyright!!!:-(

this is one of the things that annoy me - if they have photos and you are prepared to pay the fr's then why wont they release any that are not 'evidence' for prosecution etc. you are trying to use them for training to stop it happening again - where is their logic - if i were you i wouldnt give up  is there a freedom of information act issue here? especially if the photos have been published or made available in any way - someone else may be better placed to advise on this issue

A friend of mine approached Polar Fire Station in East London a while back and they have an "unofficial web site", which has photos on. She explained that she needed photos for Fire Training of staff in a large office complex in Canary Wharf, London. They were happy for her to use them providing she made no money from the training and they got a mention. You might want to try them.

Sorry, my mistake. She was not given permission by Poplar Fire Station, but was redirected elsewhere.
