I will be conducting some smoke tests shortly and will post the results on this forum. Some interseting replies posted but I remain sceptical about the situation. My concerns about the smoke tests is the water based smoke used may not act the same as the real thing that contains particulate matter. My opinion remains that the downward and outward draft will keep it from the detector in the early stages of a fire

I would tend to agree Paul, I realise there are several factors to consider but in my opinion if the detector is situated within a metre of the radius of the revolving blades then there is the potential for smoke to blown away from it.
